Maximum Overdrive (1986)
Back of the box. . .
“When a seemingly harmless comet, Rhea-M, circles the earth, machines begin to behave in bizarre ways. At first, the problems seem minor: the gas pumps suddenly stop pumping fuel, videogames flash and beep uncontrollably and soda machines spit change and cans of soda pop wildly. Soon, the attacks become more serious. No place is safe, including the ‘Dixie Boy’ truck stop where patrons and employees try to out-maneuver a convoy of terror.
Armed with a secret cache of weapons hidden in basement of the Dixie Boy truck stop, Bill Robinson (Emilio Estevez) leads an escape to the open sea in a last-ditch effort to save himself, his group and the entire human race.”
DIrector: Stephen King

This is a great campy 80’s horror comedy and was the first and last movie directed by Stephen King. According to interviews with King himself, he was coked out the entire time he was working on the movie. Which makes sense, considering that within the first 20 mins we get an insane car pileup with multiple deaths, an electric carving knife turning on its operator, a man being bludgeoned to death by soda cans, and a little boy is run over by a steamroller! All the characters are amazing, even the assholes, and the dialogue is hilarious. Emilio is great, the AC/DC soundtrack is great, and listen for Lisa Simpson because Yeardley Smith is also featured. Plus you get to watch people get killed by machines!
